Protect Your Investment |
Now that you finally settled in your
Dream Home, it’s time to start planning those improvements and projects that
will put the finishing touches on your investment. This year about one third of all
American homes will spend close to 175 million dollars on home improvements.
Yet, because your home is probably the most expensive thing you own picking a
contractor can be extremely risky.
As a professional Realtor, I can’t
tell you the countless times I have actually decreased the value due to shoddy
workmanship and/or work not being done to code.
It’s your home: Exercise
your rights as a consumer when making that critical decision on who to hire to
do the work.
Right to be Informed: Its your right to be informed of all pricing, materials that will be used and assurance that the work will be done to code.
Right to Quality: All work needs to be performed by experienced contractors and sub contractors. They need to be licensed, bonded and insured. Ask for referrals you can contact.
Right not to be Intimidated: It’s your investment, you have the right to question the process without being put on the defense.
Right to have everything spelled out: You should have a clear agreement as to
the cost, time to complete, type of materials and an understanding of how
conflicts will be resolved.
As a Realtor, I know the thought that
has gone into the purchase of your new home.
Now give that much thought to choosing the right people to complete your
investment and you will be satisfied for years to come.
